It's like Christmas Eve

The big day is tomorrow... countertops are on their way!! I know it may be hard to believe it, but I can't wait to say goodbye to this stained, gold-flecked, hideous 1960's laminate.

With a flood of great friends into town this weekend for a Hokie wedding, we've been quite the busy bees. We've hosted 9 different overnight guests within the past four days, with several more floating in and out for visits. What a joy! But as you can imagine, the Hostess with the Mostess doesn't typically have much free time for home renovations.

Before the big event, we did manage to get the backs of the cabinet doors painted with their final color. Woohoo! Then, we chose to take a deep breath and do nothing while our friends were here!

But after the last of the guests were gone and we got the little peanut to bed last night, it was time to prepare for tomorrow's countertop install. We got started right away, removing the old countertops. It was a pretty straightforward task...and we even found these two layers of wallpaper as a fun reminder of just how far this little house has come since we bought it in April.

We had no trouble removing the old sink and carrying away the existing laminate, but the bar on the passthrough to the dining room was a different story.

Suffice it to say, the original builders did not intend for that thing to go anywhere... ever. But after an hour of banging, prying, chiseling, sawing, and making poop faces (see below), that sucker is g-o-n-e.

So now, we wait! Like a giddy little girl on Christmas Eve, I have been anticipating this install for weeks! I just know it's going to be the kick in the pants we need to really see this renovation come together. Can't wait to share photos!
